About Me

Bryan Hinman MA, LCPC

Over the past 15 years, I’ve worked in a variety of roles throughout the non-profit sector, including assessment, residential services, and program management in adult substance use treatment. These experiences have shaped my deep appreciation for the complexities of recovery and the value of compassionate, person-centered care.

As an openly gay man, I have had my own experiences of not being affirmed or seen, especially when it came to my healthcare. It is my hope to create a welcoming space for people of all identities; a space where folks are able to safely reflect on difficult subjects without fear or being shamed for who they are or what they experienced.

A central theme in both my clinical work and volunteer efforts is a deep commitment to advocacy by helping others feel truly seen and understood.

To me, therapy is about much more than reducing symptoms or simply feeling better. My hope is that each person I work with feels recognized in their lived experiences and begins to move toward a meaningful life.

Outside of therapy, I also enjoy connecting with audiences through professional presentations on a wide range of topics. I especially enjoy working on projects that bring together the many intersections of my work within the community.

When I’m not working, you can often find me volunteering in my community in support of substance use recovery and LGBTQ+ communities. I’m also an avid tabletop and video game enthusiast (Gaymer) and a proud full-time dog dad. A lifelong fan of science fiction, immersing myself in fantasy worlds is one way I recharge and find balance amid the meaningful work I do every day.

My Approach

I am an ACT-trained, trauma-informed EMDR therapist who focuses less on labels and more on the function of the challenges clients face. Understanding how symptoms or patterns developed and the purpose they continue to serve can often reveal the path toward meaningful change.

My work draws from EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). These three approaches that share a deep respect for client autonomy, present-moment awareness, and compassion.

Through this multidisciplinary lens, together we can begin to understand the function of behaviors while honoring your natural capacity for healing and growth.

This integration allows therapy to be both structured and flexible, helping clients process the past, connect with their values, and move toward meaningful, lasting change.

I specialize in supporting individuals navigating LGBTQIA+ concerns, addiction, trauma, and phobias; helping clients break free from old patterns that create disconnection or keep them feeling stuck.

I am an EMDR-certified therapist, EMDRIA-approved Consultant-in-Training, and currently completing advanced training in EMDR therapy.

Once we identify your goals and concerns, I make it a priority that you understand your options and feel empowered throughout the process. Your voice and choice guide our work, ensuring that therapy progresses at a pace that feels safe, collaborative, and supportive of your unique journey.
